Taxodium distichum
Deciduous conifer with soft, feathery needles that turn rusty-orange in fall. Famous for growing in Southern swamps but adapts well to ordinary yards.
Tolerates both standing water and, once established, drought — unusually adaptable. Develops "knees" in consistently wet soil.
Generally considered non-toxic to cats and dogs.
